Your little work of art

I know what you’re thinking. “How can something possibly be this tiny and precious?” Everything about your newest little family member and their journey to you has filled your heart to the brim, and you wish you could bottle this feeling up.

Being a new parent is one of the most exciting and beautiful times of your life and it deserves to be cherished, even long after your babies are grown. Trust me, mama — those tiny toes, that button nose, and those chubby little legs will grow fast, and you’ll be so glad that you have beautiful images to look back on from their very first days on earth.

Kind Words from Happy Parents

Hear what others said about our time together

"Omg Wendy! These are absolutely beautiful!!! So so happy. We really appreciate the work you do. Seriously mind blown at how great you are with little ones! Your work speaks for itself, but we're definitely thrilled to share our experience working with you. We are so grateful."

Tiff, Matt and Lennon

"The photos are breathtaking! I ugly mom cried all morning over them! Each one is perfect and it was such an wonderful experience."

Tammy

"OMG Wendy, the photos are stunning! I'm sitting her bawling my face off. 🙂 I'm so glad we decided to do these. She's changed so much over the last month, that I already miss how tiny she was. I'll especially cherish the family shots you took for us holding her. I was feeling it all (and nothing) those first few weeks — my most raw, and I can't thank you enough for encouraging me to get a few snaps. Those are the ones I know she'll love to see most, when she's older. I can't thank you enough."

Nicole

"Wendy was so great, patient and professional! Everyone knows that all newborns do is sleep, poop & eat. Haha! Well, that’s exactly what my baby girl did the entire shoot! Wendy made it such a fun and funny experience and I certainly appreciate how patient and real she was to help make the experience that much more enjoyable."

Hailey

"Wendy is patient, genuine and will be so extremely gentle, calm and collected throughout the photo shoot. She'll take her time to make sure you and your baby (or babies) are comfortable and will make you feel like you (and your baby) are her only thing in the world to do during that time. It’s clear that she genuinely loves working with babies and I was so happy that I had her for mine during those very precious newborn days. "

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I purchase a newborn session as a gift?

Absolutely! Newborn sessions make a perfect gift for expectant parents. Please reach out here to inquire about gift certificates.

What exactly is a “custom-styled” newborn session?

I know how important these newborn photos will be for you and your family, and I take a collaborative approach to each session. You get to choose which props and colors you’d like to incorporate into your photos and if there are certain sentimental items you’d like to bring along we  can absolutely try to work them in.

Not sure what you want? Don’t worry — I’ll always have a few options set up to choose from before you arrive. You’ll also get an email ahead of time with all the information you need to make the most of your session.

How do I know my baby will be safe during the session?

As a trained and experienced newborn photographer, the safety of your newborn baby is of THE utmost priority during your photo session. From the temperature of the room, gentle handling, skillful posing, sanitary practices, and appropriate prop choices, everything about the newborn session is designed to be stress-free, safe, and comfortable for both parent(s) and baby.

How old are newborns when they’re usually photographed?

This tiny time passes so quickly! Newborns are best photographed between 7-14 days after their arrival. Your sweet new bundle will sleep very deeply in those first couple of weeks, which allows me to easily and gently transition them between poses. That’s how we achieve the sweet little poses you’ll see in my newborn portfolio.

How long will a newborn session take?

Your choice of package determines the length and number of styled set-ups used in your newborn session. On average, newborn sessions typically last 3 hours.

Do you have a studio or will you come to my home?

Due to the care, equipment and supplies needed, newborn sessions take place within my quiet, family-friendly studio located next to my home in Reserve Mines, Cape Breton.

How far in advance should we book our newborn session?

To ensure availability, I recommend booking your session at least 2-3 months in advance. A tentative date will be penciled in based on your due date. As soon as your little bundle arrives, please notify me within a day or two after delivery.

What should I bring?

Be prepared to nurse/feed a LOT during your session to encourage a deeply sleepy baby. You should also bring extra diapers, wipes, a pacifier (if you use one), snacks and a cool drink(s) for yourself, and any special blankets or props you wish to have incorporated into your session.

Do you have props?

I offer a large variety of props, baskets, blankets, and outfits. I will work with you either before your session or upon your arrival to choose your favorites in advance. A determined number of set-ups will be chosen and used, based on your choice of desired session package.

Can we bring our own props?

You are welcome to bring your own clothing or meaningful items as well. I ask that you please notify me in advance if you do so that I can prepare and plan the styling of your session before your arrival.

Do we get digital files?

Yes, every newborn package includes digital files. Your choice of package determines the number of styled set-ups and images available for selection within your viewing gallery.

What if my baby poops or pees on you or your equipment?!

Babies pee and poop a lot and on everything, including me! Don’t be alarmed if this happens numerous times during our session — it comes with the territory. All used props and blankets get washed after each session.

Can siblings and parents be incorporated into the session?

Young siblings are more than welcome to be a part of the session, but I ask that we arrange for the sibling portion to happen either at the beginning or end of your session when someone can pick them up or drop them off according to their scheduled participation.

Photos with parents are definitely encouraged and can also be scheduled at the beginning or end of the session.

Photos with siblings and parents are included in the Heirloom package, but are subject to an additional $50 fee, if added to the Keepsake or Memory Packages.

Does my baby have to be naked?

While naked-baby photos are adorable and capture the true essence of your newborn, nudity is not mandatory.

Do you offer canvas prints or framed enlargements?

I have a wide range of professional display and wall art products available. Please inquire for details, pricing, and information.

How long does it take to receive our photos?

I aim to have your photo sessions complete and ready for viewing within 2-3 weeks after your session.
